What is Child Safety Lock

Elevators with child safety locks give parents extra peace of mind by limiting children's ability to independently operate elevators. Unlike standard elevator control buttons, which activate immediately upon being pressed, child safety locks are activated only upon authorisation from an adult, for example, PIN entry, key switch operation, or fingerprint scanning (in selected models), or with the use of a control lock.

Child Safety Lock Features in Residential Elevators

Child safety locks are combined with other safety and security measures, including automatic landing doors, obstruction sensors, and interlocks to prevent movement until both of the elevator doors are closed and properly aligned, to enhance both performance and safety in modern home elevators. At Elite Elevators, we have implemented advanced access control features on all of our residential elevator models as part of their ongoing commitment to providing reliable safety features. The X200 Plus and X300 MK II will include biometric access control (on some models), restricted access settings, and intelligent control panels to maximise overall safety of your residential lift.

Why It Matters

While there are many elements present in a family home, particularly children, guests and pets moving and playing throughout a house, one of the biggest risks associated with all of this activity in your home is that without proper safety measures put in place, a child will press a button on an elevator due to being curious and activate it without meaning to.

Smart Child Lock Technology for Safer Home Elevators

  • Prevent unauthorised use
  • Reduce the risk of moving unexpectedly
  • Prevent small fingers from being injured by doors
  • Discourage children from playing with the controls of the elevator.

Adding a child safety lock to an elevator provides parents and carers confidence, knowing they will not be able to operate the elevator just by pressing a button.

Access Control

Operation may include PIN code, key switch, access card, or biometrics (model dependent).

Door Interlocks

Doors will not unlock unless the cabin is correctly aligned with the landing.

Obstruction Sensors

Doors cannot close on objects detected in the way.

Controlled Movement Systems

Start/stop control technology enables gradual acceleration and deceleration for fewer jolts.

Safety Compliance

Elite Elevator systems are designed to meet the requirements of European safety standards to provide consistent and reliable protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. 1. What purpose do child safety devices serve in residential elevator systems?

Child safety devices in residential elevators will prevent children from using the elevator until they have performed an approved action, such as entering a PIN or pushing an activation button to operate the elevator.

2. 2. Does the elevator operate normally if it is locked in the adult at the time it is opened?

Yes, when the lock is opened, the elevator operates normally and does not change how well the elevator performs or how great the ride is.

3. 3. Does the child safety lock have any value for a residential unit that does not have children living there?

Yes, the child safety lock has value for all residents who have pets and/or elderly individuals living in their homes by assisting them in preventing accidental usage by others.

4. 4. Will emergency operations be adversely affected?

Emergency alarms, batteries that power elevators without electricity, and emergency rescue systems will operate normally.

5. 5. Will vault door locks be fitted to existing Elite elevators?

In almost all cases, yes. Depending upon which Elite elevator that you currently have, child safety locks can be installed either during the construction of the elevator itself or as a retrofit after completion of the elevator.
